Coupeville’s Tyler King set the best marks in the state among 1A runners in the 1,600 and 3,200 meter races last Saturday, April 17, at the Eason Invitational in Snohomish.

The Eason meet featured over 1,300 athletes from 60 schools.

King finished second in the 3,200 in 9:32.49. The race was won by Mack Young of Redmond in 9:32.09.

King placed fifth in the 1,600 in 4:20.49. Elma’s Todd Jackson won the race in 4:15.46.

Although he didn’t run the races at the Eason Invitational, King has the state’s sixth best 1A 800 time (2:02.65) and seventh best 400 time (52.66).

In other local track news, Oak Harbor’s Shantae Young broke her own school record in the long jump last Thursday, April 15, in a meet against Lake Stevens and Snohomish. Her leap of 18-3.5 is also the best in the state this spring regardless of classification.

Young also has the third best 4A triple jump (37-0.5).

Teammate Naomi Walker has the fifth best 4A 200 mark (25.81).

Young, Walker, Janessa Ramos and Christina Alexander own the ninth best 4A 4×100 relay time (50.19).
