Tonight’s results to determine Wildcats’ playoff fate / Soccer

The outcome of two games tonight (Monday, May 1) will determine the postseason fate of the Oak Harbor High School soccer team.

The Wildcats lost 1-0 at Marysville-Pilchuck Friday, April 28, and now needs the Tomahawks to win or tie against Arlington tonight.

In addition to M-P taking care of Arlington, Oak Harbor needs to upset visiting Mountlake Terrace (9-3, 11-4) at 7:30 p.m. tonight to make the playoffs.

If Oak Harbor (2-7-2, 4-8-3) wins and Arlington (3-7-1, 4-10-1) losses, the Wildcats will secure the ninth and final Wesco postseason berth. If Oak Harbor wins and Arlington ties, the two teams will be tied in the standings and need to playoff to determine the final postseason slot.

Oak Harbor and Arlington played to a 3-3 tie in early April.

Oak Harbor coach Jeff Laiblin called the loss at Marysville-Pilchuck “heartbreaking.”

“We played good but just couldn’t get it in the net,” he said. “We made one mistake at the 11 minute mark and it was the difference.”
