Timm still alive in Wesco North tournament / Tennis

Oak Harbor High School’s MJ Timm will play for third place and a berth in the 3A district tournament at the Wesco North divisional tournament Wednesday, May 8, in Snohomish.

All other Oak Harbor participants in the divisional tournament were eliminated in the first day of competition Tuesday.

Timm won her first two matches Tuesday to reach the semifinals. She beat Ashlyn Rounds of Marysville Getchell 6-3, 6-0 and then topped Megan Lever of Snohomish 6-4, 6-0.

Timm fell to Caterina Gasperi of Everett in the semis 6-3, 6-0.

In other singles action, Oak Harbor’s Danielle Lonborg lost to Melody Barnhart of Everett 6-0, 6-1 in the loser-out first round.

In doubles, Sierra Brackeen and Annie Salinger finished eighth. They defeated Meghan Zimmerman and Sofia Trujillo of Marysville Getchell 6-1, 6-4 in the opening round, then lost to Allie Graham and Natalie Stern of Snohomish 6-2, 6-2. The Wildcat pair was eliminated by Qiuqun Johnston and Olivia Zwar of Everett 6-4, 6-1.

Monique Stolmeier and Olivia Lerch lost to Ana Sulantay and Tori Killinger of Stanwood 6-4, 6-4 in the loser-out first round.
