All three of the Oak Harbor High School girls tennis matches this young season have ended in 4-3 scores, the latest was a narrow loss to visiting Arlington Friday, March 19.

The loss was the Wildcats second after a season-opening win. Friday’s match, like all the others, saw Oak Harbor fail to win a doubles match. The Wildcats’ individual wins came in the top three singles spots.

Cady O’Dell zipped to a 6-0, 6-2 No. 1 singles win; Erin Neilon won second singles 6-2, 6-1; and Laurin Rico, playing her first singles match of the year, captured third singles 6-1, 6-4.

Clarissa Abedesco dropped the No. 4 singles match 7-5, 6-2.

All three inexperienced Oak Harbor doubles teams lost in straight sets.

In first doubles Alexa Holmly and Jennifer Fremd fell 6-0, 6-1. Jennifer Bowers and Kerry Rathsabanhdith lost by the same score in second doubles, and Jordan Faralan and Shannon Neilon were beaten 6-3, 6-3.

Oak Harbor coach Horace Mells said, “This was another tough contest where experience prevailed. I knew our best chance of winning relied in the four singles, but in spite of our best efforts we came up short. All players played well with signs of improvement.”

Arlington raised its record to 2-1.
