Tennis: Granite Falls gets by Wolves 4-1

Brooke Monroe and Lexy Bennett picked up Coupeville’s lone point with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 comeback win in third doubles.

With normal No. 1 singles player Emily Burchfield absent, Lexi Blanchette moved up to the top spot and lost 4-6, 3-6. Hannah Christensen filled in for Blanchette in the No. 2 slot and lost 1-6, 0-6.

In first doubles, Amanda d’Almeida and Jessica Riddle were blanked 0-6, 0-6; and in second doubles Jamie Price and Grayson Akins fell 1-6, 0-6.

The two teams meet up again Thursday, May 5, at Granite Falls at 4 p.m.

Coupeville ferries up to Friday Harbor Monday, May 9, for the district tournament at 11 a.m.

Burchfield and Blanchette will represent the Wolves in singles, while a’Almeida/Riddle and Monroe/Bennett will play doubles.

The district champions in singles and doubles advance to tri-district May 18 and 19. The second-place finishers face a play-in match May 16 in Coupeville to earn a trip to tri-district.
