Coupeville’s Julia Sierra Castano lost in the opening round of the state 1B/2B/1A state tennis tournament today, May 28, in Yakima.

Tenino’s Kirsten Jorgensen defeated Castano 6-4, 6-3.

Castano will now meet Italia Mengarelli of Granger in the consolation bracket.

Mengarelli lost 6-1, 6-1 to Brewster’s Brittany Webster in the first round.
