Ten Wildcats qualify for state meet / Track

Eight Oak Harbor High School track team members were crowned champions at the district meet Wednesday and Friday, May 17 and 19, at Shoreline Stadium, and 10 qualified for the state meet.

The 3A state meet is Thursday-Saturday, May 25-27, at Tacoma’s Mount Tahoma High School.

The top four finishers in each district event earned tickets to state.

In team scoring at district, the Oak Harbor boys placed fourth and the girls 13th in the 14-team meet.

Taeson Hardin won the 100 meters in a personal best 11.09 and then joined Andrew Miller, Jordan Washington and his brother Dorian Hardin on the winning 4×100 team (43.45).

Chris Brown, who was seventh in the 400 in the North divisional meet last week, clocked a personal record 51.59 to win the event at district, and Miguel Guzman was next in line at 51.74.

The pair teamed with TJ Passmore and Mac Nuanez to win the 4×400 (3:27.92).

After taking second in the triple jump at the divisional meet, Garren Guerrero skied to first at district with a leap of 42-07.5. He added a seventh in the long jump (10-06.25).

Ozell Jackson qualified for state in the high jump, finishing third at 5-10.

Miller was sixth in the long jump (20-09.5) and Washington took seventh in the triple jump (39-10.5). Kyle Nickols also scored for the Wildcat boys by placing eighth in the high jump (5-08).

Other boys who competed were Isaac Gomez (ninth, shot put, 43), Weston Whitefoot (10th, javelin, 126-03), Jordan Bell (11th, triple jump, 38-08.75) and Ben Bozeman (12th, javelin, 132-02).

The only Oak Harbor girl to earn a state berth was Lydia Dorsey in the javelin. She topped her personal record by nearly 15 feet with a throw of 116-11, good for third.

Picking up points were Amaya Rittierodt (fifth, 100, 12.85), Julie Jansen (sixth, discus, 105-06), Alexis Smith (seventh, 1,600, 5:20.99), Kaitlyn Chelberg (seventh, 100 hurdles, 16.35) and Jenna Cooley (eighth, long jump, 15-11.5).

Smith was also ninth in the 3,200 (11:49.55).

The 4×100 (Rittierodt, Maria Dailey, Alora Caillier, Taylor Kesler; 52.27) and the 4×200 (Cooley, Rittierodt, Caillier, Jennifer Turnek; 1:53.46) relay teams each placed seventh.

Other Wildcat competitors were Cami Bristow (11th, javelin, 96-07), Sarah Ulam (12th, shot, 29-02), Samantha Hines (12th, javelin, 92-11) and Kristina Tirado (17th, high jump, 4-04).
