It was close as a quintet of local golfers eked out a one-stroke win in the Whidbey Golf and Country Club Five-Person Best Ball Tournament Sunday, July 29.

Mike Johnson, Nick Johnson, Joe Beatty, Austin Beatty and Rich Merritt combined for a 387 to win the tournament over 31 other teams.

Just one shot back at 388 was the team of Arik Dahlen, Dave Smith, Kevin Fakkema, Robert Tercero and Willie Sprague.

Finishing third were Jake Cohen, Gary VanCleve, George Schmidt, Chuck Yurcina and Oki Dureau at 391.

Just 10 strokes separated the top 10 teams.
