Sultan explodes after break to beat Wolves / Boys basketball

Sultan buried the visiting Coupeville High School boys basketball team with a 27-point third quarter in a 67-28 win Friday, Jan. 11.

The Turks held a 23-16 lead going into the third period, then outscored the Wolves 27-3 to win going away.

Coupeville (1-3, 2-9) now faces the team just above it in the North Sound Conference standings, Cedar Park Christian (2-2, 6-8), at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, in Bothell.

Sultan (3-1, 4-8) jumped to a 13-6 first-quarter lead as the Wolves’ Sean Toomey-Stout scored all but one of Coupeville’s points.

The Wolves, behind three-pointers by Mason Grove and Jean Lund Olsen, played even with Sultan in the second quarter as each team scored 10 points.

Cameron Gundersen tallied 10 points, Obed Cushing 8 and Tanner Force 7 in Sultan’s big third period.

Toomey-Stout finished with 7 points in the game to lead Coupeville. Grove had 6, Hawthorne Wolfe 5, Gavin Knoblich 5, Lund Olsen 3 and Jakobi Pilgrim 2.
