A sweep of the doubles matches helped visiting Ferndale nip the Oak Harbor High School tennis team 4-3 Monday, March 23.

Oak Harbor won three of the four singles matches but came up one point shy of the team win.

“All of the singles players played well with their best play of the season,” Oak Harbor coach Horace Mells said. “I was impressed with their performance.

“Our doubles teams are also improving but are still struggling with proper shot selections and an effective style of play. Hopefully we’ll be able to work out these kinks during out next practice session.”

Mckenzie Perry (first singles, 6-0, 6-0), AnnaBelle Whitefoot (second singles, 6-2, 6-2) and Alyssa Eden (fourth singles, 6-0, 6-4) registered Oak Harbor’s wins.

A close match in third singles proved to be the difference in the team score.

Oak Harbor’s Tamia Rios fell 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.

In doubles, Patrice Woodworth/Ellyse Bonganay lost 6-1, 6-1; Erina Horikawa/Emma Lerch lost 6-3, 6-2; and Emily Black/Lauren Aspery lost 6-1, 6-0.

Oak Harbor (0-3) goes to Glacier Peak (1-0) at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 24.
