Stone chosen for all-star game / Alumni update

Prior to the sports world being shut down, Coupeville High School graduate Makana Stone, a senior on the Whitman College women’s basketball team, was selected to play in the second annual Beyond Sports Women’s Collegiate All-Star Game in Columbus, Ohio.

The players were chosen by a committee of NCAA Division III head coaches who are members of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.

Stone was one of 18 players selected for the game.

Stone was the Northwest Conference’s Player of the Year this season, leading Whitman to the league’s regular-season championship and second place in the conference tournament.

Although Stone was injured, Whitman (26-3) won its first two games in the national D-III tournament and reached the Sweet 16 before the tournament was cancelled because of the coronavirus.

During her career at Whitman, Stone started 92 games, a school record, and scored 1,337 points (No. 5 all-time) and grabbed 837 rebounds (No. 2 all time).
