Paced by Ciara Hu and Akasha Trisler, the Oak Harbor High School girls swim team finished 11th in the state 3A meet at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way Nov. 12 and 13.

Hu, a junior, and Trisler, a sophomore, each reached the “A” finals (top eight) in three events.

Trisler had the best individual finish, grabbing fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.93).

Hu finished sixth in the 200 individual medley (2:12.12), two spots ahead of Trisler (2:16.81). Hu was also seventh in the 100 butterfly (59.89).

Hu and Trisler teamed up with junior Karina Concepcion and senior Tori Nickerson to place seventh in the 200 medley relay (1:56.35). The same group also swam to 10th in the 200 free relay (1:44.47).

Concepcion was 17th in the 100 backstroke (1:04.65) and 21st in the 50 free (26.31).

Nickerson placed 18th in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.56) and joined Therese Desquitado, Abby Rankin and Irysh Concepcion to place 22nd in the 400 free relay (4:13.03).

The top 16 places earned team points.

Oak Harbor ended the meet with 88 points. Mercer Island, coached by Oak Harbor graduate Chauntelle Johnson, was the 3A champion with 278 points.

In the state 2A meet, Coupeville junior Rachel Weinstein placed eighth in the 500 free (5:45.37) and 14th in the 200 free (2:08.33). Although Coupeville is a 1A school, the smallest classification offered by Washington in the state finals is 2A.

Last year in the state 4A meet, Hu was 17th in the IM and 18th in the fly; Trisler finished 20th in the 100 backstroke; and the 200 medley relay team made up of the same group as this year finished 21st.
