Saturday (1:15 p.m.)
Coupeville’s 4×200 relay (Lauren Grove, Lindsey Roberts, Sylvia Hurlburt and Makana Stone) finished third in a school record 1:46.41. Cascade of Leavenworth won with a 1:45.53.
Roberts followed that up with a fourth in the 100 hurdles in 16.39. Royal’s Maggie Delay won in 15.72. Roberts, the only freshman in the finals, came into the meet with the seventh-best time.
The Coupeville girls have 11 team points with a chance to score in two more events (the 4×100 relay and 400). The boys have 9.5 points with Dalton Martin currently competing in the shot put.
Oak Harbor’s 4×100 team of Amaya Rittierodt, Alana Austin, Janae Payne and Matti Miesle (40.38) finished second to Enumclaw (49.17). That wraps up the state meet for the Wildcats, both boys and girls. The second in the relay was the only top-eight finish for the girls, earning eight points. The boys also picked up eight points on Joseph Noland’s second place in the discus yesterday.
Friday (8:30 p.m.)
The Wildcat girls 4×100 relay team of Amaya Rittierodt, Alana Austin, Janae Payne and Matti Miesle took first in its heat in 49.12, the second fastest qualifying time to Enumclaw’s 49.06. The finals are at 12:20 Saturday.
Austin placed 14th in the preliminaries of the 200 meters in 26.68.
Oak Harbor’s Mac Nuanez (51.44) finished 14th and Josh Cote (52.74) 16th in the 400 meters preliminaries.
Tanner Walker was 11th in the 3A javelin finals with a throw of 148-05. Mount Spokane’s Jacob Barnes won with toss of 187-07.
Coupeville’s Mitchell Carroll took 15th in the triple jump in 38-02.75. The event was won by Royal’s Joe Lang in 44-08.5.
The Coupeville girls 4×100 team of Lauren Grove, Lindsey Roberts, Makana Stone and Sylvia Hurlburt ran a 50.66 in the preliminaries and will enter the finals (12:55 p.m. Saturday) with the fourth-best time. Lynden Christian posted top time of 49.68,
Freshman Danny Conlisk took 17th in 2:07.83 in the 1A 800 meters preliminaries.
The Wolves’ Jacob Smith qualified for the finals in the 200 by recording the fourth-best preliminary time of 23.18. The finals are set for 3:10 p.m. Saturday.
Conlisk, Smith, Jared Helmstadter and Henry Wynn were 15th in the 4×400 relay preliminaries.
In the 1A girls 200 preliminaries, Grove finished 15th in 27.5.
The Wolves’ Skyler Lawrence threw the shot put 32-03 to grab 12th. Montesano’s Jordan Spradlin defended her title with a mark of 48-04, the best ever by a Washington athlete regardless of classification. The old record was held by Tera Novy, also from Montesano, with a 48′ throw in 2012.
Friday (4:15 p.m.)
Coupeville’s Dalton Martin captured second place in the discus behind a record-breaking performance by Chelan’s Jose Padilla. Martin tossed the discus 160-06. Padilla set a new Washington record, regardless of classification, with a throw of 195. The previous record was 193-03 by Clarkston’s Gary Leffler back in 1979. Padilla smashed the 1A record, 178-06 by Fred Swendsen of Fife in 1968.
Coupeville’s Makana Stone won her heat in the preliminaries of the 400 in 58.89, second overall to Northwest’s Maya Jackson (57.55), the defending champion. The finals in the 400 will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Oak Harbor’s Jared Gray finished 15th in the preliminaries of the 300 hurdles in 41.2.
Friday (2 p.m.)
Oak Harbor’s Joseph Noland threw the discus nearly 11 feet beyond is previous personal best to finish second. He entered the state meet with the sixth-best 3A mark of 157-08. Last year his top throw was 129-04.
Wyatt Musser of Kamiakin won the 2016 title with a throw of 185-10.
Coupeville’s Dalton Martin took eighth in the 1A javelin with a mark of 149-03. It was only the fourth time he threw the javelin in competition. His previous PR was 146-08, the 28th best effort in 1A heading into the state meet and the 16th best of those who participated at state.
Lakeside’s Zach Annanie won the 1A javelin with a 183-07.
The Wolves girls 4×200 relay finished second in their preliminary heat with a 1:47.08. Lauren Grove, Lindsey Roberts, Sylvia Hurlburt and Makana Stone qualified for the finals (10:20 a.m. Saturday) with the third-best time overall behind Cascade (Leavenworth), 1:46.54.
Roberts qualified seventh in the 100 hurdles in 16.57. The finals are 11 a.m. Saturday. Hannah Rusnak of Lynden Christian led the field with a 15.56.
Coupeville’s Jacob Smith was 11th in the 100-meter preliminaries in 11.76 and did not qualify for the finals.
Thursday
Oak Harbor’s Jared Gray clocked a 16.16 in the preliminaries of the 110 high hurdles, good for 17th place, and did not make the finals.
The Wildcat boys 4×400 relay team of Gray, Daniel Guerrero, Josh Cote and Mac Nuanez was 14th in the preliminaries in 3:33.34 and did not qualify for the finals.
