The four returning letter winners on the Oak Harbor High School girls tennis team will make up the Wildcats’ singles lineup this year, according to head coach Horace Mells.

Junior Cady O’Dell is slated to play first singles for the Wildcats.

Senior Erin Neilon, who was all-Wesco last season after finishing fourth in the Wesco North and seventh at district, will hold down the second singles spot.

Senior Laurin Rico and junior Clarissa Abadesco will play third and fourth singles.

Mells said that key newcomers include junior Jennifer Bowers, junior Kerry Rathsabandhdith, sophomore Shannon Neilon, sophomore Jennifer Fremd and sophomore Alexa Holmly.

Mells said, “Our singles line up, consisting of the top four of five returning varsity players, will be competitive.  Our doubles teams are inexperienced at the varsity level and will probably struggle in the beginning then become competitive by mid season.”

Mells said that Stanwood, Snohomish and Cascade appear to be the favorites to win the North this year. Oak Harbor was 3-13 last year.

Oak Harbor travels to Monroe Monday, March 15, then entertains Lake Stevens Wednesday, March 17, at 3:45.
