Spring prep preview / Oak Harbor girls golf

Oak Harbor High School girls golf coach Andy Wesley will form his team around two returning letter winners.

Back are Jessica Monaghan and Beth Paul to lead the Wildcats, who placed second in the Wesco North last spring.

Monaghan hopes to build upon her strong finish to the 2016 season.

After placing 25th in the six-team Wesco North tournament, she rocketed to 14th in the 13-team district meet, earning a trip to state, where she placed 77th.

Monaghan finished 16th and Paul 25th in league points last spring.

The returning players, who have been in the program for three or four years, will help get the new players up to speed, according to Wesley.

Among the newcomers, Mckenna Ronning, Natasha Decker, Jaelyn O’Hara, Rebecca Krider and Jazmine Arguello should help fill out the lineup, Wesley said.

As for the team’s goals, Wesley said he hopes the players “get better and have fun.”

Oak Harbor heads to the Avalon Golf Course for a jamboree hosted by Sedro-Woolley at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 14.

The Wildcats host their annual Whidbey Shootout at noon Tuesday, March 21.
