Two goals by Madi Boyd pushed South Whidbey past the visiting Coupeville High School soccer team 2-0 Tuesday, Sept. 24.

The win was the Falcons’ first in four tries; the Wolves dropped to 0-4 (0-3 in conference).

Coupeville coach Troy Cowan said, “The girls played hard and made some big strides towards improving their play. Our possession is getting better and our defense continues to be our strength. We have to keep working hard and focusing on the basics.”

Cowan was pleased with the play of goalkeeper Julia Myers who “continues to be a rock in the box and makes countless, heart-stopping saves.”

Coupeville was hurt by a mistake in the 18th minute when it failed to make a routine clear that led to a South Whidbey goal.

“We are trying to do too much with the ball instead of trusting our training and our instincts of just clearing the ball,” Cowan said.

Lack of offense (the Wolves have scored only once in four matches) continues to be a concern.

“We will be making some changes in our lineup and in our formation against our next few opponents,” Cowan said. “We have to figure out a way to create some offense. We are going back to the drawing board to redesign our offensive plan and put some hustle behind our muscle.”

He noted that the Wolves need to get more through balls to  speedster Makana Stone to ignite the offense.

Coupeville hosts Sultan (0-3, 2-3) at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26.
