Building momentum for the beginning of the playoffs, the Coupeville boys soccer team closed out the regular season with a 2-1 comeback win over South Whidbey on the Falcons’ field Saturday, May 1.

The Wolves start the post season Wednesday at home at 4 p.m. in an elimination game. As of this writing, their opponent was not known. Friday Harbor, Meridian, Nooksack Valley and Lynden Christian will also compete in the tournament.

If Coupeville wins, it will jump to the double-elimination portion of the tournament Thursday and Saturday. Three teams will advance to the bi-district.

The win Saturday was the first for Coupeville in South Whidbey and helped the Wolves (8-6) finish ahead of the Falcons (7-7) for fourth in the Cascade Conference; the finish was the best ever for Coupeville in its five-year history.

Henry Mead scored for South Whidbey 12 minutes into the match.

Jordan Lamb knotted the score in the 24th minute when he dribbled through several defenders and “surprised the goal keeper,” according to coach Paul Mendes.

Lamb also hit the game-winner in the 51st minute off an assist from Spencer Tack.

It was one of many assists by Tack this year. Mendes said Tack, playing on the wing, has “drawn a lot of attention” and is “good at setting others up.”

Evan Ameluxen-Coleman was in the goal for Coupeville.
