Cedarcrest picked up its first win of the season at the expense of the Coupeville girls soccer team Thursday, Sept. 16, at Mickey Clark Field.

The Red Wolves, now 1-2-1, blanked Coupeville 5-0. The loss evened the Wolves’ record a 2-2 for the year, but 0-2 in Cascade Conference play.

Coupeville coach Mike Thornton said, “We just gave the game away.” He said his team was “flat” in the first half and allowed three goals because his club didn’t properly clear the ball out of the goal mouth and allowed Cedarcrest multiple chances.

The Wolves played better in the second half, Thornton said. He added, “We are so close to turning the corner (to being a contender); it’s as if we are afraid to take that next step. But we will figure it out; the girls said they will be ready to practice tomorrow.”

Coupeville travels to King’s (2-1-1) Tuesday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m.
