Lakewood scored three second-half goals to shake off the pesky Coupeville girls soccer team in the Cougars’ 4-0 win Saturday, Oct. 23, at Mickey Clark Field.

The match was the regular season finale for Coupeville; up next is the district play-in game Wednesday at the loser of tonight’s match between Meridian and Lynden Christian.

Undefeated Lakewood (14-0, 15-0-1) wrapped up the Cascade Conference title with the win, but it had to battle through a scrappy Coupeville (2-12, 4-12) performance.

Coupeville coach Mike Thornton said, “The game was good…The team as a whole played well again.”

He added, “We had a couple of quality shots just no luck of getting them in. We will be working on finishing this coming week.”

Two of the Cougars’ goals were deflected in, according to Thornton. He said goal keeper Cassie Babcock got a hand on the other two, but they “took weird bounces and went in.”
