The Oak Harbor girls soccer team suffered its second straight 1-0 loss when the Wildcats fell to visiting Marysville-Pilchuck Saturday, Sept. 11.

The Tomahawks’ Madison Schoonozer’s controversial goal broke a scoreless tie with less than 12 minutes to go in the match to lift M-P to a 2-0 season record. The loss dropped Oak Harbor to 1-2.

Oak Harbor coach Jeff Laiblin said that some thought Marysville-Pilchuck was offsides on the game’s only goal and “it could have gone either way.”

He said his players were upset with the call, but after the match they admitted that “the officials called a great game.”

The Wildcats, according to Laiblin, “just missed” on several scoring opportunities.

Oak Harbor has played well this year and is putting last fall’s rough season in the rearview mirror. Laiblin said, “Our goal is to go forward and never go back. I am proud of the girls.”

The Wildcats go to Glacier Peak (1-0-1) Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 7:30 p.m., and then they return home Saturday, Sept. 18, for a match with Lynnwood (0-2) at 7:30 p.m.
