South Whidbey won the latest round of the island soccer rivalry when the Falcons topped visiting Coupeville 2-0 Friday, April 22.
The Wolves won earlier this spring over South Whidbey 3-0.
Jimmy Price scored a deflected goal late in the first half to give the Falcons (7-5, 5-5) a 1-0 lead last Friday. The Falcons sealed the win with a free-kick goal by Pat Myatt in the match’s final minute.
Coupeville coach Paul Mendes said, “Our defense held up well again, and we put a lot of pressure on them, especially in the second half. We need to keep working on finishing more of the scoring opportunities we have been creating.”
Coupeville (4-8-1, 3-8) begins a busy week tonight, April 25, when it hosts Granite Falls (0-12-1, 0-11) at 6 p.m. Wednesday, the Wolves go to Sultan (5-6) at 7 p.m. and then come back home Friday with Lakewood (5-8, 4-7) at 6.
