Soccer: Marysville-Pilchuck stops Oak Harbor

The euphoria of Oak Harbor’s win Tuesday was soon erased Wednesday, April 21, as the Marysville-Pilchuck boys soccer team defeated the Wildcats 8-0 at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.

Having played the night before, while Marysville-Pilchuck was coming off five days of rest, had a “definite” impact on the Wildcats, according to coach Brian Thompson.

After defeating Everett 3-2 in thrilling fashion the night before for its first win, Oak Harbor was physically and mentally drained heading into the M-P match.

The Tomahawks took control early, scoring just three minutes into the match and again six minutes later. They scored four more times before the break, with the goals coming in pairs only seconds apart.

M-P scored in the 25th minutes, then 55 five seconds later. They picked up two more goals in the 37th minute.

The Tomahawks dominated offensively, outshooting Oak Harbor 28-4. Brady Ballew netted five goals for Marysville (7-3-1).

Thompson said, “Tuesday (at Cascade) we will come back. The win over Everett was a confidence booster.”

Oak Harbor (1-11) travels to Cascade (3-8) Tuesday, April 27, and then plays Snohomish (7-3-1) at home Friday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m.
