After a quick goal, the Coupeville soccer team was blanked by Sultan the rest of the way and lost 2-1 at Mickey Clark Field Friday, April 8.
Brandon Wilsey fired in a goal from 18 yards out just five minutes into the match, but that was all the offense the Wolves could muster.
Sultan responded quickly, scoring on a penalty kick just moments after Wilsey’s goal.
The Turks (4-3, 4-2) scored again on a set play off a long free kick at the 26th minute.
After an evenly contested first half, Coupeville dominated play in the second period but couldn’t net the equalizer.
Coupeville coach Paul Mendes said, “I’m pleased with our play; we came out a lot stronger in the second half. We just need to keep working on our offense.”
The Wolves are now 3-3-1 for the season and 3-3 in conference play. Mendes said, “It is still early, we just need to get back to work.”
Coupeville plays four matches next week with the first three on the road, starting with a trip to Lakewood (2-6, 1-5) Monday, April 11, at 6 p.m. The Wolves host Friday Harbor in a nonleague match Saturday, April 16, at noon.
