The Coupeville girls soccer team suffered a disappointing loss when it dominated host Cedarcrest but lost 2-0 Thursday, Oct. 7.

Wolves’ coach Mike Thornton said, “We outplayed them. I think it was our best game of the year, even better than our win over South Whidbey. We played a team game.”

The Red Wolves scored twice off set plays, the first in the 28th minute.

Thornton said he thought for sure his club would tie it up as it pressed throughout the second half, but Cedarcrest ended up with it second goal in the 76th minute.

Thornton said, “We had our chances but couldn’t find the back of the net.”

He lauded his team’s effort and said, “We are going to need that kind of effort for our play-in game.” Later this season the Wolves will meet a team from the Northwest League in a qualifying game to continue in the post season.

Next up for Coupeville is King’s (5-3, 6-3-1) Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 6 p.m. at Mickey Clark Field.
