Archbishop Thomas Murphy, showing the skills that have helped the Wildcats dominate the Cascade Conference, defeated the Coupeville soccer team 5-0 in Everett Wednesday, April 13.

Alexis Magana, who scored four goals, netted three shots in the first 21 minutes to help ATM (8-1, 7-1) scoot to an early lead.

Coupeville coach Paul Mendes said, “They showed why they are currently the best team in the league. They moved and kept the ball very well on their turf field, putting us on the defensive early on. They are technically very good with lots of speed throughout the team.”

The Wolves adjusted at the break, Mendes said, and made “a stronger showing the second half, keeping the score 1-0 the last 50 minutes.”

Coupeville also “came close to scoring” several times in the second half, Mendes said.

He added, “In the long run, playing a team of this quality will keep us humble and help us continue to improve our game as we begin the second half of the season.”

Coupeville (3-5-1, 3-5) goes to Cedarcrest (5-3-1, 5-3) Friday, April 15, at 6 p.m. The Wolves edged Cedarcrest in a shootout earlier this spring.
