Smith claims Ladies Club Championship at WGC

Pam Smith unseated perennial favorite Ockie Dureau to win the Ladies Club Championship Tournament by one stroke Friday, Aug. 29, at Whidbey Golf Club.

Pam Smith unseated perennial favorite Ockie Dureau to win the Ladies Club Championship Tournament by one stroke Friday, Aug. 29, at Whidbey Golf Club.

Smith (Elvebak) and Dureau each shot 85s over the first 18 holes, then Smith carded an 84 to edge Dureau, an eight-time champion, 169-170.

Monique Franssen, fresh off a flight 2 net championship in the club’s couples tournament, earned best net score with a 145 (74-71).

Pat Conners (108-99) and Pat West (105-102) tied for third with a gross score of 207.

In net play, Eleanor Wright (74-74) and Diane Pierce (73-75) finished second at 148. Pierce was the flight 2 gross champion in the couples tournament.

Jane Behrman (75-78, 153), Cheryl Beeksma (72-82, 154) and Cindy Campbell (81-75, 156) finished fourth through sixth in net scoring.
