Jay Silver has been selected to replace long-time football coach Ron Bagby at Coupeville High School.

Silver said he hopes to continue and build upon the successful program Bagby developed at Coupeville.

He said his goal, like any coach, is to win, then quickly added, “but there are a lot more important things in coaching than winning.”

Silver was raised in the Twin Falls-Jerome area of Idaho and attended college at Western Montana where he competed primarily as a defensive end.

Upon graduation, he taught fourth grade for two years at Lighthouse Christian and then served as a behavioral specialist for four years at Filer, Ida.

He was the defensive coordinator at Lighthouse Christian for one year, then moved to Filer where he eventually became the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator.

In 2008-2009 he was the head coach at Entiat.

When no teaching job opened up in Entiat, he moved to Mount Vernon in June of 2009 to work on his masters. Last fall he was the offensive coordinator for the Bulldogs.

Wanting to get back in a head-coaching role, Silver saw Coupeville as a good fit.

He said, “Coupeville is one of those communities that is really supportive and a great place to raise a family.”

His family includes wife Jamie and children Samantha, 11, Chloe, 8, and Jaxon, 3. He and his wife are also guardians of two adults with disabilities.

Silver has a masters in secondary education and is currently completing a masters in special education. He will work as a substitute teacher in the area next fall.
