Two minutes into the game it was evident it was going to be a long night for the Oak Harbor High School girls basketball team in its 56-23 loss to visiting Shorecrest Wednesday, Dec. 7.

The Wildcats had five turnovers before their first shot, an airball, and Shorecrest scooted to an 11-0 lead.

Marissa Lewis sank a three-pointer to break the Scot run, but the winners then tacked on another spurt to lead 20-3 at the quarter.

Shorecrest led at the half 36-9 and 55-13 after three quarters.

The only bright spot for Oak Harbor was the fourth quarter when its reserves outscored Shorecrest’s 10-1.

Oak Harbor struggled to score all night, and coach Trisha Clayville said it was a combination of Shorecrest’s stingy defense and her team’s reluctance to execute its offense.

The Wildcats settled for a long-range attack, and five of their six field goals were three-pointers. They shot just 18 percent for the game (6-for-33). The Scots shot 51.4 percent (19-for-37).

Lia Pantoleon led Oak Harbor with eight points, including two threes. Dominique Jackson had four points, Morgan Young three, Lewis three, Kelsey Rankin two, Annie Leete two, and Rayan Russell one.

Nine different Scots scored, three in double figures, led by Brianne Lasconia with 14.

Oak Harbor (0-1, 1-2) goes to Lynnwood (1-0, 3-1) Monday, Dec. 12, at 7:15 p.m.
