Sequim scored eight runs in the first inning and cruised to a 13-1 five-inning win over the host Coupeville High School baseball team Tuesday, March 22.

Coupeville (2-3) will look to bounce back when it travels to Friday Harbor (1-0) for a noon game Saturday, March 26.

Sequim’s first seven batters all reached base and scored, and Coupeville never recovered.

One bright spot for Coupeville was the pitching of Julian Welling. The sophomore entered the game late in the first inning and retired eight consecutive Sequim batters over the next three innings.

Sequim (3-1) tacked on four runs in the fourth inning and another in the fifth.

Coupeville’s single run came in the first inning. CJ Smith singled, went to second on a passed ball and scored on Welling’s single.

Hunter Smith had the only other Coupeville hit.

Sequim starting pitcher Daniel Harker also starred at the plate with three hits, a home run, two doubles and five RBI.

“For us, this was a learning game,” coach Marc Aparicio said. “We mixed people around.”
