The North Whidbey Little League Rockies continued their run through the consolation bracket of the Tesarik Tournament with a 15-5 romp over the Anacortes Blue Sox in Sedro-Woolley Thursday, June 6.

The Rockies play at 6 p.m. Friday, June 7; a win there lifts them into the championship series at 11 a.m. Saturday.

In the win over the Blue Sox, the Rockies scored three runs in the top of the first and tacked on runs in four of the next five innings.

In the first, Shane Vogt walked and scored on Micah Franklin’s triple; Franklin continued home on a throwing error. Joe Dixon walked and Trevor Sheils doubled, then Dixon scored on a fielder’s choice.

In the top of the third, the Rockies went up 7-0. Dixon, Sheils and Jared Johnston singled for one run. Andrew Score followed with an RBI hit. Hunter Hogan walked and Andrew Dixon was hit by a pitch to force in a run. Nick Krantz’s ground out plated the fourth run.

The Blue Sox came alive in the bottom of the third to score two runs, but a diving catch by Franklin for the third out minimized the damage.

Joe Dixon and Sheils doubled in the fourth for another run.

In the fifth, Andrew Dixon and Vogt walked in front of a Franklin RBI double. Joe Dixon singled in two more runs.

Anacortes picked up a run in the bottom half, and, again, a nice defensive play, this time a shoestring catch by Krantz, thwarted the rally. The Rockies led 11-3.

In the sixth, the Rockies mixed three walks, three hits and a sacrifice fly to score four runs. Ironically, one of the hardest hit balls of the inning, a shot by Evin Witinger, resulted in an out on a fine Blue Sox play.

The victory was the Rockies third straight. They will need to win three more to capture the title.

The results of the other North Whidbey Little tournament games were not reported.
