Relays lead Wildcats at district / Swim and dive

A pair of 10th-place finishes in the relays were the best marks by the Oak Harbor High School swim and dive team at the district meet Friday and Saturday, Feb. 9 and 10, at the Snohomish Aquatic Center.

As a team, the Wildcats finished 12th out of 13 schools with 28 points. Shorewood captured the district crown with 406.5 points.

Seniors Matt Kolden, Garrett Karney and Ethan Wilson teamed with sophomore Micah Franklin to take 10th in the 200-yard medley relay (2:00:79) won by Edmonds-Woodway (1:42.21).

Franklin, Kolden, Wilson and junior Aaron Martinez were 10th in the 200 freestyle relay (1:45.12); Edmonds-Woodway won in 1:31.13.

The top four in each event qualified for the state meet in Federal Way Feb. 16 and 17.

Martinez: 23rd, 200 freestyle, 2:23.59; 27th, 100 free, 59.32.

Pablo Closson: 26th, 200 freestyle, 2:28.57; 27th, 500 free, 7:12.45.

Andrew Lof: 28th, 200 freestyle, 3:05.51; 30th, 500 free, 8:48.33.

Lawrence Zapanta: 21st, 200 individual medley, 2:33.62; 24th 100 breaststroke, 1:18.18.

Karney: 25th, 200 individual medley, 2:40.79; 23rd, 500 freestyle, 6:32.15.

Rylan Quiros: 23rd, 50 freestyle, 25.15; 23rd, 100 free, 57.08.

Kolden: 24th, 100 backstroke, 1:14.22.
