OHHS 12th at Spud Wally

Matched against some of the top wrestlers in the state of Washington, the Oak Harbor High School team finished in 12th place at Saturday’s Spud Wally Invitational in Sedro-Woolley.

Nineteen teams competed in the tournament that was won by Orting with 229 points.

Enumclaw placed second with 213 points and Auburn was third scoring 164.

The Wildcats tallied 71.50 points.

Wolves blast Tenino 71-34

The Coupeville High School boys basketball team put together a balanced offensive attack Friday night to remain undefeated with a convincing 71-34 victory over Tenino in a non-league game.

Geoff Wacker with 12 points and Hunter Hammer with 11 were the only players to score in double figures for the Wolf Pack. But helped along by Cody Peters with nine points, Tyler King with eight and Jason Bagby, Erik King and J.D. Wilcox with seven points each, Coupeville kept its record unblemished at 3-0 in preseason games.

Wildcats remain winless

Oak Harbor had no answer for Cascade’s Chris McGrath who tossed in a game-high 31 points to lead the Bruins to a 61-46 victory over the Wildcats in Friday WesCo North boys basketball action.

Oak Harbor trailed 23-20 at halftime, but was out-scored 38-26 in the second half to fall to 0-1 in league games and 0-2 overall.

Michael Washington, Jr. paced Oak Harbor with 18 points.

Wolf Pack snaps streak

Pulling out to an 8-2 lead, the Coupeville girls basketball team never looked back, snapping a two-game losing streak with a 56-30 win over Tenino in a non-league game Friday evening.

The Wolf Pack (2-2 overall) took a 17-7 lead after the first quarter and upped the margin to 34-12 at halftime.

Megan Smith led the way for Coupeville with a game-high 21 points, seven rebounds and six steals.

Marie Hesselgrave had eight points and three steals, freshman Katie Smith scored seven points and Cassidi Rosenkrance, also a freshman, scored six points and had four assists, as the Wolves out-scored Tenino in every quarter.

Swim team wins twice

The talented Oak Harbor High School boys swim team continued to roll over opponents in the pool upping its season record to 5-0 by defeating Lynnwood and Meadowdale in a double dual meet Thursday afternoon in Lynnwood.

The Wildcats bested the host team in easy fashion 134-11 and handed Meadowdale its first loss of the season, 104-65.
