Pioneers’ pressure sinks Wolves / Girls basketball

A ball-hawking full-court press proved fruitful for the Nooksack Valley High School girls basketball team as the Pioneers won 52-30 at Coupeville Saturday, Dec. 21.

“They’re really good and made us pay for every turnover we committed,” Coupeville coach Scott Fox said. “Tough, aggressive full-court man defense was too much to overcome.”

The loss dropped the Wolves’ record to 6-2. Nooksack Valley is 5-2.

Coupeville plays another non-league game at Chimacum at 5:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3.

Nooksack Valley, spurred by its defense, led 16-8, 34-14 and 43-24 at the quarters.

Scout Smith topped the Wolves in scoring with 12 points. Chelsea Prescott had 7, Avalon Renninger 6 and Izzy Wells 5.

Tehya Moore scored 15 points for the Pioneers.
