Pioneers pop Wolves / Boys basketball

A 28-point second period helped the Nooksack Valley High School boys basketball team blow past visiting Coupeville 73-42 in a non-league game Saturday, Dec. 22.

The Pioneers were up by only 2 points, 12-10, after the first period and then erupted for 28 points to lead 40-19 at halftime. Cole Eldridge pumped in 12 points to lead the Nooksack Valley (5-5) surge.

The Pioneers increased their advantage to 58-30 going into the fourth quarter.

Mason Grove hit four three-pointers and finished with 14 points to top the Wolves in scoring. Hawthorne Wolfe added 12, Gavin Knoblich 6, Ulrik Wells 4, Jered Brown 4 and Sean Toomey-Stout 2.

Eldridge posted a game-high 22. Seven different Pioneers combined to make nine three-point shots.

Coupeville (0-1, 1-7) heads to King’s (2-0, 5-3) for a 6:45 p.m. league game Friday, Jan. 4.
