The Oak Harbor High School football team finished up its annual spring camp with a scrimmage Wednesday, June 16, at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.

Head coach Jay Turner said the goal of the camp was to introduce the offense, defense and special teams. He added, “We also teach some basic fundamentals. This will enable us to begin the fall camp without having to re-teach all of the basics of our offense and defense.”

Turner said his players “definitely” reached that goal and “they have a great work ethic and attitude.”

He said the team still has a lot of work to do: “We need to be in the weight room this summer as we don’t have a lot of size. Our OL (offensive line) will probably be the smallest in the league. We do have some athletes but we need to get stronger.”

No particular individual or groups stood out in camp, according to Turner. He said, “It’s really too early to tell, I’ll have a better assessment of people and groups after Wenatchee.”

The Wildcats will make their annual summer trip to Wenatchee July 18 through 22 for team camp.

Last weekend Oak Harbor competed in a seven-on-seven tournament. The Wildcats defeated Archbishop Murphy and Stanwood and fell to Edmonds-Woodway, Meadowdale and Mariner.
