Getting a boost from an unexpected source, the Oak Harbor High School girls golf team won a three-team match Thursday, March 20, at the Whidbey Golf Course.

Getting a boost from an unexpected source, the Oak Harbor High School girls golf team won a three-team match Thursday, March 20, at the Whidbey Golf Course.

The Wildcats defeated Marysville Getchell 269-289; Shorewood had only four golfers, one short to qualify for a team score.

Joanna Leete shot a three-over 39 in the nine-hole match to earn medalist honors by 11 strokes. Oak Harbor’s second-best score came from its No. 6 golfer, Hailey Beecher, who carded a 52, third best among individuals.

The remainder of the Oak Harbor golfers were bunched together: Bree Roderos, 58; KC Winfield, 60; Cassidy Gurich, 60; and Resego Mooki, 61.

Oak Harbor joins Stanwood at host Marysville-Pilchuck’s Cedarcrest Golf Course at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 27.
