Senior Matt Bolte was the most decorated of the 21 letter winners at the Oak Harbor High School swim team’s awards banquet Feb. 21.

Bolte was one of the team’s three captains, along with juniors Price Hu and Yale Rosen.

Bolte also received the Coach’s Award from head coach Amy Nurvic and was picked as the team’s Most Inspirational member.

He finished his season by helping the Wildcats place sixth in the state in the 200 medley relay.

Other senior lettermen were Tyler Buchanan, Corey Butler and Adam Smith.

Junior lettermen included Hu (who also lettered in diving), Rosen, Ben Cardinal, Judd Ford, Devin Schell and Brandon Vagt.

Sophomores Jacob Jepsen and Tucker Lundstrom lettered in swimming and Matt Reith in diving.

Freshmen lettermen were Bon Jarik Bainco, Keaton Dieter, Josh Jepsen, John Kaltenbach, David Kusnick, Brett Vagt, Cole Weinstein and Jaxon Wolfe.

Weinstein attends Coupeville High School but swims for Oak Harbor because Coupeville does not have a swim team.

Hu was named the team’s Most Valuable Player.

Junior Jonas Burke was selected as the Most Improved.

Cardinal earned the Captains’ Award.

Bolte was joined at the state meet by Rosen, Hu, Cardinal, Brandon Vagt, Jacob Jepsen and Josh Jepsen.

Oak Harbor finished the year with a 13-2 record, second in the Wesco North, fourth in district and 16th at state.

Nurvic said, “For the second year in a row I had a wonderful group of student athletes to work with. They had a good work ethic, positive attitudes and were very coachable.”

Nurvic received help this year from volunteer diving coach Janet Tipping.
