The Oak Harbor Legion baseball team split a double header at Stanwood Tuesday, July 9, drilling the Cannons 16-3 before falling 9-6.

Oak Harbor completes league play at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 11, with a double header with Ferndale.

Oak Harbor led only 4-3 heading into the fifth inning in the opening game at Stanwood, then scored seven runs in the fifth and five in the sixth.

Oak Harbor built a 4-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first and third innings, thanks largely to Clay Doughty.

Doughty drilled a two-run triple in the first and a two-run double in the third.

In the fifth, Oak Harbor mixed four walks and an error with a two-run double by Tyler Snavely and singles by Brent Mertins and Quentin Tungate to score the seven runs.

Doughty hit another triple to lead off the sixth. Five walks and singles by Jozef Mendoza and Bailey led to five runs.

Doughty finished 3-for-5 with two triples, a double and four RBI; Bailey was 2-for-4 with a double; and Koby Cosper singled and scored three runs.

Danny Wolfe pitched a one-hitter for the win.

Stanwood raced to a 9-0 lead after five innings in the second game then withstood a furious six-run Oak Harbor rally in the seventh.

Only one Stanwood run was earned as Oak Harbor committed six errors.

In the wild seventh, Oak Harbor blended Mertins’ double; singles by Bailey, Doughty and Snavely; two walks; a hit batter and an error for the six runs.

Oak Harbor stranded seven runners, five in scoring position.

Bailey and Snavely each finished with two hits.
