Oak Harbor splits 2 matches / Soccer

After beating visiting Cascade 3-2 Saturday, the Oak Harbor High School soccer team lost its conference opener 5-0 to Cedarcrest Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.

In the win over the Bruins, Tiana Jackson opened the scoring on an assist from Natalie Plush.

Gracie Hiteshew hit the second goal with help from Jackson and Peyton Rhyne.

“The third goal came on a corner kick, (but I am) not sure who got that one,” coach Mike Lonborg said.

“Mikhaela Cortez and Peyton Rhyne showed very well all game,” he added. “The girls are working hard, just need to correct minor things that turn into big things.”

Cedarcrest went up 2-0 at halftime and added to the lead after the break.

“Not much to say on this one,” Lonborg said. “Cedarcrest was good, and we made little mistakes that cost us.”

Oak Harbor (0-1, 1-2) completes a stretch of four consecutive home matches when it hosts Shorecrest (1-0-1, 2-0-2) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, and South Whidbey (2-1) at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15.
