Continuing a season of close matches, the Oak Harbor High School tennis team slipped by visiting Marysville Getchell 4-3 Thursday, Sept. 19.

Four of the Wildcats’ five matches this season have been decided by one point, with Oak Harbor winning two.

Coach Horace Mells said to expect more of the same. Stanwood is the clear favorite in the Wesco North, but the other teams are evenly matched, according to Mells.

The Spartans blanked Oak Harbor 7-0 earlier in the week to stay undefeated in league play.

Mells said his team “is playing well” and should be a competitor in the division.

Oak Harbor won three of the four singles matches in the narrow victory over Marysville Getchell (1-1, 1-4).

Carter Saar rallied to take second singles 1-6, 6-1, 6-4. Casiano won in third singles 6-3, 7-5; Jackson Wezeman was a 6-2, 6-3 winner in fourth singles.

In second doubles, Tom Dale and Jacob Nelson won 6-1, 6-7(8), 6-2.

Two of Oak Harbor’s three losses went three sets.

Harrison Miller fell in first singles 7-5, 1-6, 7-5, while Kyle Martin and Isaac Deleon were edged 7-6(9), 4-6, 6-3 in third doubles.

Jozef Mendoza and Jose Dimaculangan lost first doubles 6-0, 6-3.

Oak Harbor (1-2, 2-3) hosts Mount Vernon (2-2) in a nonleague match at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23.
