Oak Harbor, Shorewood battle to 1-1 tie / Soccer

Shorewood scored on a late penalty kick to salvage a tie with Oak Harbor in soccer.

Oak Harbor High School and Shorewood struggled to a 1-1 tie in soccer at Wildcat Memorial Stadium Tuesday, Oct. 18.

Caylie Etherington put Oak Harbor into the lead, but the Thunderbirds evened the match off a penalty kick.

“Very unfortunate,” Oak Harbor coach Mike Lonborg said. “The girls played hard the entire game. (We) had multiple chances to score but couldn’t find the net.”

Lonborg praised the play of Lydia Peplinski, Gracie Hiteshew, Mikhaela Cortez and Etherington.

The Wildcats (1-8-1, 3-10-1) play their final home match at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, against Marysville-Pilchuck (4-3-3, 5-5-3), and then they end the season with Mountlake Terrace at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at Edmonds Stadium.
