Oak Harbor runners help Washington win BorderClash

Three Oak Harbor High School athletes joined forces with the best cross country runners in the state of Washington to defeat the Oregon all-star teams in the 15th annual BorderClash Saturday, Nov. 23.

Three Oak Harbor High School athletes joined forces with the best cross country runners in the state of Washington to defeat the Oregon all-star teams in the 15th annual BorderClash Saturday, Nov. 23.

The 4,387-meter race under lights is hosted each year by Nike at its world headquarters in Beaverton, Ore.

The Washington boys topped Oregon 20-37 as Oak Harbor junior John Rodeheffer placed 32nd (14:29) out of 78 runners.

Matthew Maton of Oregon’s Summit High School won in 13:28.

Washington took the girls race 23-36 with Oak Harbor junior Jonalynn Horn finishing 46th (17:20) and senior Alex Laiblin placing 54th (17:29) out of 79.

Washington’s Alexa Efraimson from Camus won in 15:43.
