Oak Harbor High School’s John Rodeheffer and Jonalynn Horn competed for Washington in Nike’s 16th annual BorderClash cross country race in Beaverton, Ore., Sunday, Nov. 23, helping Washington win the all-star race over Oregon.

The event, featuring the best cross country runners from the two states, was dominated by Washington. The Washington boys won 19-42, taking eight of the top 10 spots, and the girls won 20-37.

Rodeheffer placed fifth out of 77 in the boys race, running 13:57 over the 4,387-meter course. He trailed the same three runners who defeated him in the Washington state 3A championship race two weeks ago and one Oregon runner.

He defeated the Washington champions from the other classifications.

He was 32nd in last year’s BorderClash.

John Dressel of Mount Spokane was the 2014 winner in 17:48.

Horn placed 49th out of 80 in the girls race, which was won by Ella Donaghu of Oregon in 15:47.

Horn clocked a 17:11, topping her time from last year and defeating several runners who beat her in this year’s state meet.
