Oak Harbor monopolizes podium / JROTC

Wildcat Battalion of the Oak Harbor High School NJROTC unit gathered nine first places at the second regular-season competition Saturday, Jan. 12, at Port Angeles High School.

Seven school representing Navy, Air Force and Mariner Corps JROTC programs took part.

Oak Harbor entered 12 squads in the seven team competitions, and four took first and all finished among the top six.

Color guard No. 1, unarmed drill (Gold) and the two rifle teams (sporter and precision) each snared first place.

Color guard No. 2 and armed drill team (Gold) placed second, while physical strength No. 1 and academic No. 1 each took third.

Armed drill (Purple) was fourth; physical strength No. 2 and unarmed drill (Purple) finished fifth; and the academic team No. 2 was sixth.

Winners in the 10 individual events were Manik Bains, unarmed commander; Kanoa King, strength team ironman; Lauren Crossley, precision rifle; Ivan Snyder, sporter rilfe; and Victor Zarate/James Fisher, dual armed exhibition drill.

The Wildcats swept the top three spots in both shooting events. In precision, James Hart took second and Cierra LeGendre third.

Following Snyder in sporter were Trevor Westman and Joshua Odeneal.

Other seconds went to Daimen Christensen, armed (Gold) commander, and Noelle Pangilinan/Zac Evangelista, dual unarmed exhibition drill.

Zarate, armed commander; Samantha Olson, strength team ironwoman; and Anthony Herrera/Leanne Canonizado, dual unarmed exhibtion drill; took fourth.

In fifth place were Pangilinan, unarmed commander (Purple), and Jaelyn O’Hara, strength team, ironwoman.

Lindsey Griffith, Shaina Aguirre and Elaine Aguirre finished 7-8-9 in strength team ironwoman.

The next competition is Saturday, Jan. 26, at Everett High School.

Oak Harbor will host the final regular-season meet Saturday, Feb. 16.
