The Oak Harbor Legion baseball team hopes some of its tournament magic carries over into the league’s district tournament at Burlington-Edison High School this week.

The Wildcats tied for seventh in the 11-team league with an 8-12 record and will be the No. 8 seed in the district tournament. Oak Harbor faces league champion and No. 1 seed Anacortes (17-3) at noon Wednesday, July 16, in the double-elimination tournament. The top two teams advance to the state tournament.

Anacortes defeated Oak Harbor 10-0 and 8-4 June 5 during league play.

In contrast to its league record, Oak Harbor posted a 13-6 record in four invitational tournaments this summer, placing first, second twice and third. The third came last weekend in the Skagit Valley Tournament.

Oak Harbor finished the Skagit Tournament by splitting two games Sunday. The Wildcats defeated White Rock, B.C., 3-2 behind Danny Wolfe’s complete game. Preston Rankin drove in the winning run.

Oak Harbor then fell to Victoria, B.C., 6-1 in the semifinals.

The Wildcats wrapped up league play Monday with a 12-1 loss to visiting Ferndale (16-4).

The first inning as a disaster for Oak Harbor as Ferndale sent 14 men to the plate and scored 10 runs. Ferndale mixed four hits with three walks and two hit batters to pile up the early runs.

Oak Harbor had only three hits, and two came from its first two batters in the game, Kevyn Johnson and Anthony Stewart.

Avery Aguirre added a single in the fifth inning.
