An 8-1 win over visiting Marysville Getchell Monday, May 4, clinched the No. 3 seed for the Oak Harbor High School baseball team in the upcoming district tournament.
The Wildcats wrap up the regular season at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, with another game with Marysville Getchell (6-8, 10-9), which will be played at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.
Regardless of the outcome, Oak Harbor (10-4, 12-6) will be the third seed behind division champions Marysville-Pilchuck and Shorewood heading into the district tournament.
The Wildcats will begin play in the eight-team, double-elimination tournament at home at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 9, against either Meadowdale (11-8) or Mountlake Terrace (10-9).
Oak Harbor used nine hits and the arm of Danny Wolfe to subdue Marysville Getchell Monday.
Wolfe threw a five-hitter and held a shutout until two outs in the seventh inning when the Chargers strung together three straight hits.
The Wildcats scored three runs in the first inning. Two walks and a single by C.J. Meders loaded the bases for Robert Herring, who tucked a line drive just inside the right-field line for a bases-clearing triple.
In the second inning, consecutive singles by Kevyn Johnson, Meders and Brent Mertins resulted in a run.
Oak Harbor added three runs in the third on only one hit (a single by Chris Trisler) to make it 7-0. Two errors, a hit batter and a walk fueled the inning.
Mertins tripled and scored on an error in the fourth inning.
Herring finished 3-for-4, Mertins 2-for-3 and Meders 2-for-4.
