Oak Harbor grad earns national honor

Oak Harbor graduate Evan Wilson, a senior at the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J., and a member of its swim team, was named the CollegeSwimming.com Division III National Swimmer of the Week Oct. 20.

Oak Harbor graduate Evan Wilson, a senior at the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J., and a member of its swim team, was named the CollegeSwimming.com Division III National Swimmer of the Week Oct. 20.

In the Ducks season opener Oct. 16, Wilson won the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.58) and the 200 individual medley (2:00.31). His time in the 200-fly is the second fastest in NCAA Division III during the 2010-11 season.

Wilson is the most decorated athlete in the history of Stevens’ program. He has been to the NCAA’s in each of his three years as a Duck, earning honorable mention All-America honors as a freshman and All-America accolades as a sophomore. As a junior Wilson placed fifth in the 400-yard IM to become an All-American and was an honorable mention All-American in the 1,650-yard freestyle. He holds Stevens school records in the 500-, 1,000- and 1,650-yard freestyle events; the 200-yard breaststroke; and the 400-yard individual medley. He was also the 2010 Empire 8 Swimmer of the Year.
