Oak Harbor finishes fifth in Wesco North / Girls golf

The Oak Harbor High School girls golf team placed fifth in the final Wesco North standings after competing in the divisional tournament Monday, May 8, at Stanwood’s Kayak Point Golf Course.

The Wildcats now head to the district tournament Tuesday and Wednesday, May 16 and 17, also at Kayak Point.

At the divisional tournament, the Wildcats were led by Makalyn Miller, who shot a 120. Beth Paul carded a 122, Kayleigh Burbank 131 and Natasha Decker 142.

Marysville-Pilchuck finished in the team standings with a 500. Oak Harbor did not qualify for a team score because it entered only four golfers.

M-P also won the league title, which is based upon league points won during the season, with 41 points. The Wildcats were fifth out of seven teams with 19.

In the overall individual standings, Jessica Monaghan was the top Oak Harbor golfer, placing 17th. Miller took 23rd, Paul 25th, Burbank 27th, Decker 36th, Avery Roberts 37th and Dana Cornejo 38th.

Snohomish’s Vreni Todd was the individual champion.
