A quick start wasn’t enough for the Oak Harbor Babe Ruth baseball team as it fell 12-2 in six innings at Burlington Monday, June 27, in the opening round of the district tournament.

Oak Harbor will now meet the loser of Ferndale-Anacortes in a loser-out game at Sedro-Woolley’s Janiki Field Friday, July 1, at 6 p.m.

Oak Harbor zipped to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but Burlington plated two runs of its own in the first and then scored four in the fourth to take over the game.

Burlington collected only five hits, four were for extra bases, and took advantage of six walks, three hit batters and two Oak Harbor errors.

Oak Harbor had just three hits, and two of those were recorded by the game’s first two batters as Clay Doughty led off with a single and Brent Mertins followed with a double. They scored on ground outs by Dustin Costin and Brandon Bailey.

Bailey singled in the third for the other Oak Harbor hit.
