Oak Harbor, Coupeville win; set up battles for 1st next week / Volleyball

Both the Oak Harbor and Coupeville High School volleyball teams won 3-0 road matches Thursday, Oct. 17, setting the stage for title-deciding matches next week.

Oak Harbor blanked Everett, while the Wolves shut out South Whidbey.

The Wildcats are now 10-0 and tied with Arlington for the Western Conference lead. Snohomish, a loser to Arlington earlier this season, is 8-1. No other team has fewer than three loses.

Oak Harbor plays Snohomish at home at 7 p.m. Tuesday and then heads to Arlington for a 7 p.m. showdown Thursday.

The Wildcats wrap up the regular season with a home match with Marysville Getchell (1-9) Tuesday, Oct. 28, and a road contest at Shorewood (5-5) Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Coupeville (6-1, 11-1) remains one game behind King’s (7-0, 11-0) in the North Sound Conference.

The Wolves host last-place Granite Falls (0-6, 3-7) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, before heading to King’s for a shot at the league lead at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24.

Coupeville closes out its regular season at Sultan (1-6, 4-8) at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28.

The Wildcats whipped Everett 25-12, 25-17, 25-19.

Morgan Pease had 11 kills, seven digs and two aces; Leielle Salinger netted 15 kills and nine digs; Payton Parks added five kills, four blocks and two aces; Gredina DeGuzman posted 22 digs; and Annie Salinger finished with 29 assists, eight digs and five aces.

Coupeville chalked up 11 aces in the 25-15, 25-17, 25-23 win over South Whidbey.

Zoe Trujillo fired three aces, and Maya Toomey-Stout, Scout Smith, Maddie Vandrak and Lucy Sandahl had two each.

Toomey-Stout added 11 kills and 16 digs, Smith 25 assists and seven digs, Davidson seven kills and two blocks and Mathusek seven digs.
